THE ARMY VISIT SCOIL MOLAISE
On the 21st of September two members of the Irish army, Trooper Jessica Slevin and Sgt. Larry Havens, visited Scoil Molaise to deliver the tricolour as part of the centenary celebrations of the 1916 Rising.
Sgt Havens and Dylan from 6th Class read the Proclamation of Independence before Emmet and Kayleigh accepted the flag on behalf of the pupils and staff of Scoil Molaise.
CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING
On Wednesday September 23rd 49 children from Scoil Molaise went to the grounds of Carlow Hurling Club for the St Laurence O’Toole Primary Schools Cross Country races.
There were races for boys and girls in 4th, 5th and 6th class plus a wheelchair race.
Everyone from Old Leighlin did their best and represented the school with pride and distinction.
All at Scoil Molaise were delighted to win medals in 4 of the 6 races we competed in.

KCLR VISIT SCOIL MOLAISE
On the 7th of October John Keane from KCLR visited Scoil Molaise in advance of the county football final on Sunday.
John interviewed some children from Scoil Molaise to get their views on Old Leighlin's chances in the final.
There was great excitement all round especially when the children got off homework for the night!
GETTING READY FOR THE COUNTY FINAL
Excitement ahead of the county football final was ramped up another notch when the boys and girls of Scoil Molaise were visited by 4 members of the Old Leighlin football panel on Thursday 8th October.
Cathal Coughlan, Hugh Gahan, John Hayden & Thomas Lynch visited the school and got the kids ready for the county final by handing out blue and white flags to each pupil.
NEW TREES PLANTED
Everyone at Scoil Molaise would like to thank the boys and girls from 4th Carlow Beavers who planted 20 new saplings along the edge of our football field on Thursday 8th October.
CREDIT UNION QUIZ
Scoil Molaise, Old Leighlin, would like to congratulate all of its teams who performed so well in the Leighlinbridge section of the Credit union Quiz.
Commiserations to the U-11 team who missed out on 1st place after a tie breaker.
Congratulations to the U-13 teams who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition.
The team of James, Jenny, Barry and Michael will go on to represent the school in the next section of the competition.
EASON SPELLING BEE QUALIFIER
On the 4th of February the boys and girls in 5th and 6th class took part in the qualifier for the Eason Spelling Bee.
The standard of spelling was excellent and it took 9 rounds of competition to find a winner.
Congratulations to Ella Mae from 6th Class who will represent Scoil Molaise in the Carlow Spelling Bee later in the year.
WALK TO SCHOOL
As part of our Green Flag initiative this year, children are encouraged to walk to school to lessen the amount of traffic on our roads.
Congratulations to everyone who is taking part!
NEW HELMETS
Everyone at Scoil Molaise would like to thank the Parents Association for their generous donation towards the purchase new hurling helmets for the school.
Thanks to their donation we were able to buy 13 brand new Azzurri helmets.
This will ensure that the children in Scoil Molaise will be able to continue to develop their hurling skills and continue to represent the school with pride on the hurling field.
5 A SIDE SOCCER
On the 9th March the 6th class boys from Scoil Molaise went into Carlow to play the FAI 5 A Side Competition.
Two teams went from Old Leighlin and even though we didn't win the competition we scored some great goals and had lots of fun.
Congratulations and well done to everyone from Scoil Molaise who represented the school so well and behaved impeccably throughout the day.
BASKETBALL TRAINING
On Tuesday 12th April the girls in 6th class were lucky enough to have their basketball training session taken by De La Salle, Bagenalstown transition year students Paul Roche and Amy Dooley.
Both Paul and Amy are past pupils of Scoil Molaise and play basketball with the Old Leighlin club.
Amy has also represented Ireland at international level.
5 A SIDE SOCCER
On the 13th April the girls from Scoil Molaise went into St Patrick's AFC in Graiguecullen to play the County Finals of the Spar 5 a side Soccer Competition.
Having won all of their group games last week the girls were hopeful of doing well.
They beat Rathvilly, Tinryland and Hacketstown to win the county final and go on to represent Carlow in the South Leinsters next week in Bunclody.
FAIRTRADE ART COMPETITION
Congratulations to Béibhín from 3rd class who recently won a prize in the Fairtrade Art and Colouring Competition.
We are all very proud of her.

SPORTS DAY
On Tuesday 22nd of June Scoil Molaise held its Sports Day.
All of the children were divided up into three teams - Red, Green and Blue. They got points for their team as they competed in the different events including sprints, long distance races, relay races, obstacle courses, sack races, egg and spoon races penalty shootout, long throw, javelin, long puck and basketball.
The weather stayed fine and everyone had a great day. After the medal presentations all of the children got ice pops!
CATHEDRAL VISIT
On Wednesday 2rd of June the 6th Class pupils of Scoil Molaise went down to the village to visit St Laserian's Cathedral.
They were very kindly welcomed by Rev Tom Gordon who actedas their tour guide and told the children all about the history of the cathedral and some amazing stories associated with the area.
The children learned loads, asked some very interesting questions and had a wonderful morning!
BIKE WEEK
Bike Week was held in Scoil Molaise at the start of June.
In the morning the children cycled from the village up to the school under the supervision of the Garda Síochána who manged the traffic on the road.
The children had a workshop with a bike expert who taught them all about caring for their bicycles and how to change a puncture.
They also undertook a cycling safely course in the yard of the school in which an emphasis was placed on control and safe stopping.
GREEN FLAG
On Wednesday 2rd of June Scoil Molaise raised its 9th Green Flag. The theme of this Green Flag was Global Citizenship: Energy.
The children worked hard over the two year cycle of the programme.
The flag was raised by Matthew in Senior Infants and Barry in 6th Class.
